General

  • Hampton Roads Community Action Program – Offers services and assistance for housing, homelessness prevention, healthcare, formerly incarcerated persons, veterans, tax filing, and financial literacy / counselling.
  • Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia – Services include adoption assistance, financial planning, mental health counseling, family engagement, and senior services.
  • Hampton Social Services – Support such as connection to federal and state benefit
    programs, adult services (protective services & service to disabled individuals), child welfare and support programs, and foster parent programs.

Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault

  • Avalon Center – End domestic and sexual violence by breaking the cycle of abuse through prevention, education, shelter and support services.
  • The Center for Sexual Assault Survivors – Offers assistance to sexual assault survivors. Provides a 24/7 crisis line, counseling, legal advocacy, and community education.
  • Transitions Family Violence Services – Providing services to adult and child victims of sexual and domestic violence. Provides transitional housing, counseling, court advocacy, human trafficking awareness and support, as well as community education.

Elderly

  • Peninsula Agency on Aging – Enhancing the well-being and livability of the community by empowering older adults. Provide transportation, home delivered meals, care coordination, VICAP insurance counseling, wellness programs, legal resources, and care giver resources.

Healthcare

  • Hampton Health Department – The Hampton Health Department provides medical, environmental and public health services to promote, protect, and preserve the health of the citizens of Hampton.
  • VA Department of Health – Two health districts serving the residents of the Cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, Williamsburg, and the Counties of James City and York. With a goal to Promote community well-being and advance health equity through data-informed decision-making and collaborative partnerships that ensure accessible and responsive services for the residents of the Virginia Peninsula, encouraging healthy access to resources.
  • Bon Secours Care-A-Van – Care-A-Van provides no-cost healthcare services for uninsured individuals. Services include primary care visits, sports and school physicals, well-woman exams, free blood glucose monitoring and diabetes education, blood pressure checks, A1c testing, free laboratory services, and referrals to specialists when additional care is needed. Patients may also receive free medications through the Dispensary of Hope formulary, with additional prescription discounts available, language interpretation services, and access to a mobile food pantry offering fresh fruits and vegetables along with nutrition education.
  • HELP, Inc. – Offers medical assistance to low-income individuals, including dental care.

Housing

  • Hampton Redevelopment and Housing Authority – Mission is to revitalize communities through affordable housing and community development programs.
  • LINK of Hampton Roads – Provides housing/shelter, food assistance, and mental and physical health support. The Emergency Services Program provides walk-in services, including a food pantry, clothing closet, and stock of common household goods.
  • Embrace Home Housing – Provides supportive housing in Hampton Roads for adults who are unable to qualify for or maintain conventional housing due to barriers such as limited income, disability, credit history, criminal background, or rental history. Through a structured community living model, the organization helps participants achieve long-term housing stability, with home locations in Hampton and Newport News.
  • ForKids – The ForKids Housing Crisis Hotline connects individuals in crisis throughout Southeastern Virginia to an extended network of housing resources. Services include, emergency shelter, outreach services, housing stability programs, education, mentorship, and economic mobility support.
  • Habitat for Humanity – Through the generosity of supporters, churches, and corporations, Habitat for Humanity is able to create affordable places to live throughout the peninsula and help with funding those in need with housing and the troubles that come with it.
  • House of Humanity – Provides support for families facing homelessness and domestic violence.
  • THRIVE Peninsula – Thrive peninsula ministers and helps with physical, economic, educational, emotional, and spiritual needs for those here in the peninsula. Through volunteer driven coalition they are able to help and empower those in need.
  • Union Mission Ministries – A faith-based organization that provides employment, housing, and healthcare support to the unhoused.
  • United Way – United Way of South Hampton Roads is a non-profit organization that assists at-risk youth, provides long-term support, and helps rebuild people’s lives in the 757.
  • Urban League – Provides affordable housing counseling for low-income individuals.
  • NATASHA House – Assists at-risk single mothers with financial and housing issues.

Legal Aid

  • Virginia Poverty Law Center – Offers civil law assistance related to consumer, housing, sexual assault, and family issues.
  • Legal Aid Society – A non-profit law firm that provides services for civil matters such as public benefits, housing, domestic violence, family law, and consumer law.
  • Virginia Lawyers Referral Service – Connects individuals with licensed Virginia attorneys at low-cost.
  • Virginia Free Legal Answers – Virtual legal advice clinic where licensed Virginia attorneys answer legal questions at no-cost to users.

Mental Health

  • Colonial Behavioral Health – Provides families and individuals with mental healthcare services in the Hampton Roads region. They also offer 24/7 crisis centers for those in immediate need of services.
  • Hampton – Newport News Community Services Board – Offers a 24/7 crisis hotline and professional assistance to residents in Hampton and Newport News.
  • Master Center for Addiction Medicine – Provides support for individuals in recovery in the form of 6 week outpatient treatment, telehealth, detox programs, medication services, psychiatric & therapeutic treatment, and family-centric recovery services.
  • NAMI Hampton – Newport News – Provides peer support, education programs, crisis hotlines/emergency services, and community events for residents of Newport News and Hampton.
  • Peninsula Pastoral Counseling Center – Services include family and career counseling (individual and premarital/marital), support groups, skills training for parenting and relationships, financial assistance, employee assistance programs, mental health screenings, postgraduate training, and military support.
  • Community Alliance – Two services are offered: Residential crisis stabilization (24/7 support and supervision with psychiatric and group services available) and community stabilization (crisis stabilization support, treatment support, and community resource coordination).

Military and Veterans

  • Military OneSource – Offers family support, emergency assistance, medical support, housing, legal assistance, deployment/relocation support, leisure services, and transportation.
  • Disabled American Veterans – Yorktown – Helps provide advocacy and benefits assistance to Yorktown veterans, emergency and family support, community partnership/outreach, and fellowship.
  • Disabled American Veterans – Peninsula – Assists veterans in navigating their VA benefits, providing counseling, civilian transition support, employment and entrepreneurship support, and transportation assistance.
  • Veterans of Foreign Wars – Post 3219 – Advocacy and support for veterans, their VA benefits, burial benefits, employment and loans, healthcare, and long-term care.
  • SSVF LINK – Supports veterans with housing stability, outreach services, case management & VA benefit assistance, financial & employment services, and food assistance.

Reentry

  • Office of Youth and Young Adult Opportunities (Hampton) – Assists youth and young adults in Hampton with transformative mentoring, peer & family engagement, emotional/social support, restorative services, workforce readiness/development, neighborhood programs, and crisis intervention.
  • HonestJobs – Repository of employment opportunities for the formerly incarcerated.
  • Broken Crayons Can Still Color – Offers legislative advocacy training, youth-centered prevention and empowerment programs, policy change initiatives, job development, civil engagement programs, and community organizing & resources.
